Chris Watson is a sound recordist with a particular and passionate interest in recording the wildlife sounds of animals, habitats and atmospheres from around the world.
As a freelance recordist for film, television & radio, he specialises in natural history and documentary location sound together with track assembly and sound design in post production.
He was a founding member of the influential Sheffield-based experimental music group Cabaret Voltaire. This performance will premiere the results of a three day workshop.

Ambient, emotional and invisible interfaces are sensing and changing the world. New generations of tiny computer systems, embedded into everyday objects, are able to sense and understand our activities and our feelings.
The everyday items we use and wear will soon incorporate intelligent technologies that can alter our environments according to our behaviours - with or without our knowledge.
Is this a vision of future Heaven or future Hell?

At this Upgrade!, Alex Hetherington will premiere a new text/video performance in response to the work of Comme des Garçons.
Kristina Johansen will present her ‘You Be The Voyeur’ improvised dance piece that utilises wearable technology and audience participation.
Andy McDonald will demonstrate his Alt-w funded research into the use of multi-touch technology in a retail context that enables mass customisation of interactive print designs.

As a part of our Non-Bio Boom season we are delighted to host a new work development residency by Marco Donnarumma. The residency will conclude with two concerts over the course of one evening for bio-sensing wearable technologies.
The first concert will include a new solo piece by Marco Donnarumma; the second concert will be the premiere of a multi-channel work specifically created by the artist for Inspace, which will actively involve the audience in an augmented Cagean Musicircus.

In a bright white underground city of the future, sex is outlawed and the use of neuro-suppressant drugs is critical in maintaining civic compliance. It also ensures that workers are able to conduct dangerous tasks for extended periods of time such as building the cities omnipresent, faceless, android police officers.
LUH 3417 works keeping surveillance on the city's residents and fielding questions about medication from them. She decides to stop taking her drugs and as the effects wear off starts to experience real emotions and desire for her roommate THX 1138. She replace his drugs with inactive ones, and a revolution begins...

It's 1927 and silent movies are giving way to 'talkies' in Hollywood. Actor Don Lockwood is caught up in this particularly bumpy technological transition with his co-star Lina Lamont. Together they're a famous on-screen romantic pair. Off-screen, it's another story.
When their latest film is transformed into a musical, Don has the perfect voice for the songs. But Lina - well, she has the kind of voice that even a mother couldn't stand. Enter Kathy Selden, a young aspiring actress and talented dancer with the voice of angel...
