Cycle 15 Alt-w Production Award - Bright Side Studios

9th Jan to 30th March 2024. FREE
Music Hall, Union Street, Aberdeen AB10 1QS

German scientist Ernst Chladni (1756-1827) was a pioneer of experimental acoustics. One of his inventions was a technique to study the motions of vibrating metal plates. In this exploration of 'Cymatics', the science of visualising audio frequencies, Bright Side Studios will reveal the visual patterns of audio by experimenting with a Chlandi Plate.

Bright Side have captured these analogue waveforms through a digital lens. They have collaborated with designer Kev Thornton to build the interactive resonance system and award-winning Scottish composer Pippa Murphy to build the sound of this piece. Now see how frequency shapes matter and explore the art and science of visible sound.

Co-commissioned by Aberdeen Performing Arts and New Media Scotland’s Alt-w Fund with investment from Creative Scotland.
