It's the 21st Century, and in the far reaches of outer space eight space freighters are nearing Saturn. Back on Earth, all forests have become extinct from careless environmental exploitation. The precious cargo aboard this freighter fleet are closed ecological systems, successfully preserving the flora and fauna of the forests in giant geodesic domes.

Reforestation of the Earth is the ultimate goal and Freeman Lowell, the resident botanist and ecologist aboard one of the ships, is determined to deliver. He's ably assisted by three of the finest robots in cinematic history, beautifully named Huey, Louie & Dewey. A prophetic, directorial debut from American special effects pioneer, Douglas Trumbull.

An Atmosphere OS production from New Media Scotland for Edinburgh Science Festival in partnership with Dynamic Earth.
