Matt Hulse’s FilmCraft Weekend

Alt-w awardee Matt Hulse has been commissioned by IC:Innovative Craft to curate a series of events and screenings that will explore, in an open-ended way, a range of possible relationships between craft and the moving image, with a particular emphasis on textiles.
Matt is drawing on almost two decades of practice as a film maker and visual artist, several years as a film educator, and even a few as a printed textile designer. He promises to bring an informed and unique perspective, his aim being to inspire, inform, challenge – and entertain.
FilmCraft: A Stitch in Time
Friday 30th January 2009, 8pm
A promenade performance and installation throughout Dovecot inspired and informed by the action of weaving and stitching. This unique collaboration is brought to you by the Dovecot weavers, Deirdre Nelson, Daniel Padden’s One Ensemble, Sarah Kenchington, Guy Bishop and Matt Hulse, setting the scene for the FilmCraft weekend.
FilmCraft: Framework

Film screening and presentation. Matt Hulse invites you to join him on an inspiring journey through an eclectic selection of hand-picked films and animations that explore relationships between craft and the moving image, with candid insight into the workings of his own practice.
FilmCraft: Observing Craft
Saturday 31st January 2009, 7pm
Film screening. Short documentaries and artist’s films on making and makers.
FilmCraft: New Media = Craft?
Sunday 1st February 2009, 4pm
A presentation on and open discussion around the cross overs between craft and new media, with specially invited guests, including ~ in the fields plus other artists, makers and researchers. Co-hosted by New Media Scotland.
FilmCraft: Dummy Jim vs Knitting Fog
Sunday 1st February 2009, 7pm
Film maker Matt Hulse will present his ambitious website and feature film project ‘Dummy Jim’. Artist Deirdre Nelson will present ‘Knitting Fog’, an exhibition she created during a three month residency on Uist. The pair will highlight existing connections between the two works and explore how they plan to collaborate in the future.
This final event will be BSL interpreted by Jo Ross.
