Modern Edinburgh Film School presents an expanded cinema event with a preface by Alex Hetherington. Claire Denis’ masterpiece 'Beau Travail' will screen alongside Bobby Niven’s short film 'ISLAND'. In addition an essay 'Blood and Sand' by Hannah McGill will be read live by the performance and visual artist Catherine Street.

Marking the launch of the Modern Edinburgh Film School artist Alex Hetherington in association with Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop will introduce this education, research, screening and production project.
Alex Hetherington's aims are to explore, through a temporary participatory film school, combined themes of the sculptural screen, film and poetry, narrative and space, event as image, and acoustics and noise as form.
The launch will include a screening of 'The Hand that Holds The Desert Down' including work by Anne Colvin, Hazel France, Anna Lucas, Rebecca Lennon, Lyndsay Mann, Daria Martin and Catherine Sullivan.

Modern Edinburgh Film School presents 'Green Screen', an exhibition of new works by eight artists; Annie Crabtree, Zöe Fothergill, Stuart Gurden, Michelle Hannah, Christian Newby, Gordon Schmidt, Katri Walker and Stina Wirfelt.
This exhibition seeks to question the semantics of art and the moving image with particular reference to the ongoing discourse surrounding the convergence of documentary, poetic cinema and performance practices.
