Alt-w | DIS-PLAY
Monday 14th October 2013, 2-5pm.
Inspace, 1 Crichton Street, Edinburgh EH8 9AB
What do cockpit controls, radio alarm clocks, telephones and weapon launchers have in common? They've all used alphanumeric LED displays to speak to users. Let's make something new with all this fascinating history.
This half-term project will explore how information is displayed on solid state electronic displays, primarily focusing on Patrick Hickey's collection of vintage alphanumeric LED displays from the 1970s and 80s.
At the Academy of Tomorrow's Wonders, Patrick will demonstrate how they work, provide an opportunity to play with the electronics and help you learn how to make displays that can communicate with you and the world.
