"This is the technological eye that takes human vision beyond the span of the human. The mythic dream always proceeds its technological realization; remember the tale of Pygmalion, or the tale of the Golem of Prague, both of these stories pre-echo the technological reality of robots, just as the tale of Icarus precedes the dream of the flying eye, the spy plane. There are machines in outer space that take photos of the Earth’s surface. These pictures are organized on a database on earth: an atlas universalis. Our decent and assent are an illusion and makes us believe we are traveling backwards and forwards from outer space back down to ground zero."
